I travel a lot in and out of San Diego and I was wondering if anyone knew of a foreign currency exchange that won't try to rip me off. I converted some at the airport and never again! I'd ideally like to find one close to the trolley lines as well as I'm on foot. I hope this place exists.

I don't even bother obtaining local currency before I leave anymore. ATMs especially in the US are practically on every street corner cavaet: But I also charge almost everything and need very little cash. But credit cards and ATMs are going to be your best exchange. Anything on the street is going to have high overhead and high risk, so they will have to charge high fees some people call this ripping you off, but it's just the cost of doing business.

Ask your bank about a foreign currency account. I really prefer to pay everything with my credit card as I get the very best interbank rate and do not get charged a currency exchange fee at all! Well, I live right here in San Diego and I always go to the Mission Valley shopping center to exchange my currency.

I've tried the airports as well and after doing some research after the fact I realized I got charged an outrageous fee plus the rate wasn't good for Euros either. Never doing that again! Like I said this company, Currency Exchange International, has great reviews online, and I've heard through my coworkers great experiences as well.

They are fast and carry many currencies on hand so if you are a last minute planner like me then this works perfect for us. Their fees were pretty good too. Also, when I returned after my trip I exchanged my Euros back to US Dollars and they waived my fee because I brought back my receipt.

Okay, so the thing is Does your bank or credit union offer a great rate for the country to which you are travelling? The Wells Fargo Branch on Sports Arena Blvd. I have used them for start up money until I can get to a foreign ATM machine.

My wife and I always travel with at least two different debit accounts and we each have a card for both accounts.
