I have not funded my account yet and have tier 1 option trading status. When I go to upgrade, tier 2-standard cash is blacked out.

I can only apply for tier 2 margin and tier 3. How do I get tier 2-standard cash? I just want to purchase options.

If it's greyed out, it's because you have a margin account. It's probably a marketing-angle to push you towards margin accounts. You'd need to have margin removed altogether.

If they are indeed not allowing you to change your tier, your best bet might be to look elsewhere for Option Trading. It is a lot easier at other brokers in my experience. There should be no difference in capital requirements between tier 1 covered and tier 2 standard cash accounts.

Maybe a small "Know Your Client KYC " difference. As Nate suggested, best to just call and ask them.
